A Drone Captured Eerie But Inspiring Footage Of A Very Empty Miami Beach During The Pandemic In Florida

These are very uncertain times we’ve all been navigating through, which have resulted in many different businesses and cities shuttering, some for the first time in history. In fact, the empty Florida beaches have been quite eerie, to say the least. Take Treasure Island Beach in Pinellas County, for instance. The popular area of Florida that is usually teeming with people due to Spring Break festivities is now eerily empty. Just yesterday Florida Governor Ron DeSantis ordered a statewide 30-day lockdown due to the coronavirus epidemic, joining a handful of other states who have already implemented the order.
However, it was just a few days ago that Florida residents and/or visitors were receiving backlash publicly for the beaches still bustling as ever before. But within the past 48 hours, things have changed significantly. The new lockdown order resulted in the beaches of Florida being hauntingly quiet for the first time in many years. Check out the drone video footage below of what was captured in Pinellas County on the first day of the beach closures. Thanks to footage provided by WJArchitects who were videoing for the new City Hall, we are able to see the emptiness that is Treasure Island Beach.
In another video out of Florida, we can see just how desolate the beaches of Miami have become since the statewide lockdown. Miami, which of course is known as one of the most bustling beaches in the world, is almost a ghost town as a drone flies over the sugary white sand and rolling turquoise waves. The Tampa Bay Times also released their own YouTube video of Clearwater Beach, which sitting completely empty is a very rare thing for this time of year. Crowds were still forming on their beaches as of last week, which is why the County Commissioners needed to step in and vote to close all beaches. Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri made a plea with the county to close the beaches in order to curb the spread of the virus.
