Taking a hike through the Tennessee wilderness is one of the most popular outdoor opportunities in the state. Full of loamy meadows and jagged, mountainous passes, the Volunteer State is the perfect place to enjoy the beauty of nature along with great weather. As long as you can handle the heat of the summer, of course! For our Music City dwellers, we’d highly recommend one of these short and sweet hikes located in and around the Nashville area. They’re great for a day trip, especially if you’re bringing the whole family.

Henry Hollow Loop is a 2.5-mile trail located in Beaman Park, just outside of Nashville in Joelton, Tennessee. Be prepared for a bit of an incline, but this great hike is perfect if you're looking to fully immerse yourself in nature.

Solamen Silva - AllTrails

The Mossy Ridge Trail is known for its waterfront views and exposed limestone. Although in completion it comes in at 4.5-miles, most folks use the loop trail as an out-and-back to make it quite a bit shorter. It's the perfect day trip out in the hills of gorgeous, lush, Middle Tennessee.

Edgar Evins State Park is roughly an hour from Nashville, but it's the perfect spot for a day trip. At 1.8-miles you'll be treated to a waterfront view of the lake as well as multiple viewing points that are perfect for a quick picture. Make sure you check the status of the trail before going! Sometimes the high water levels can result in a springtime closure.

The loop is easy for hikers of all ages, and you'll find most visitors hiking, walking, or taking a nature trip with the folks on staff. The Hidden Lake Double Loop is a 1.9-mile trail that features a stunning lake, one that's beautifully adorned with plant life and the trail is great for all skill levels. You'll find most folks hiking the trail, though some run, and dogs are also able to utilize the area if kept on a leash.

The Day Loop Trail is located in Long Hunter State Park, a natural space located just outside of Nashville in the Hermitage. Though rated as moderate, the 3.9-mile loop trail is one of the most popular in the area and is great for dogs as well.
