If you’re feeling cooped up and looking to get outside and enjoy the fresh air, take an easy hike on the secluded Jed Johnson Tower Trail in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. This short hike will take you along natural beauty that rivals some of the best in the state, and the best part is, you don’t have to hike for hours and hours to enjoy it. Jed Johnson Tower Trail is a 1.1-mile trail, out-and-back, that is lightly trafficked in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge.
It takes about an hour round-trip to enjoy the hike. There is a dirt path mixed with a little rocky terrain, but don't worry, it's not very difficult to navigate.
This short hike offers stunning views in every direction and is a great way to see the mountains of southern Oklahoma. There is a 62-foot elevation gain that gives the hike a slight incline.
Wildflowers will start to bloom in March and continue through September. And from May until August, the Indian Blanket will bloom. These lovely red flowers with yellow-tipped petals are the official Oklahoma State Wildflower.
This scenic trail is perfect year-round, as every season offers something beautiful. It's rated 4.5 out of 5 stars due to its stunning views and easy access. It may be a short hike, but it will be a memorable one.
