1. The city of Memphis looks a bit different from high above.
Even from outer space, you can see the bend of Big Muddy as it curves its way through Memphis. It's interesting to note the darker green that colors the city's suburbs.
Early on the morning of December 22, 2008, the wall of a containment pond in the Kingston Fossil Plant failed and released 1.3 million cubic meters of fly ash. The sludge was both heavy and devastating, spilling into the Emory River and burying almost 300 acres in the thick stuff.

5. The fires of 2016 can be observed from space as well.
In late autumn 2016, the beautiful Great Smoky Mountains were caught in a bought of terrifically destructive wildfires that swept through the park. 14,000 people were evacuated from Gatlinburg, Tennessee as they raged uncontrolled for most of the month of November.
