Everyone who spends some time in the First State knows that its easy to fall in love with Delaware! From remarkable history to delicious seafood and breathtaking scenery, there are so many reasons to come back again and again. Check out a few of our favorite things about the First State and see if you agree.
1. The FOOD!
Of course, one of the very first things that will win you over when you visit Delaware is the food. From picking crabs at Old Mill Crab House, to stuffing your face with crabcakes at Woody's, the food in Delaware is southern comfort seafood at its finest
2. Our world famous beaches.
Delaware might be best known for our beaches. Sure, the tourist season can get unbearably busy, but we have the sand to ourselves for most of the year, and that's enough to make anyone fall in love with Delaware.
3. The remarkable history.
Delaware is home to First State National Historic Park and it's no surprise that our tiny state is packed with local and national history. Just spend a weekend in Dover and you'll be overwhelmed with stories from the American Revolution, Civil War, and even modern day history.
4. The State Fair
We may be a bit biased, but we think that our state fair is the best in the country. This tiny state sure knows how to throw a party, and Harrington has been celebrating for over a cenutry.
5. The unique architecture.
Delaware is still home to a few covered bridges, and you'll find them in the Brandywine Valley. Looking for colonial homes? Head to New Castle. If you want to step back in time to the very first days of Delaware, check out Lewes. The fascinating architecture in Delaware will take you on a trip through time.
6. The Farmstands
When you get a little overwhelmed with the urbanization of New Castle County, drive south for a few minutes and stop by the first farmstand you see. Something about fresh produce (and some of the best peaches you'll ever try) will make you fall in love with Delaware all over again.
7. The festivals and events.
It seems like there's something to do every single weekend! Fall in love with Delaware when you tailgate the Point to Point, compete in the Sea Witch Scavenger Hunt, or attend your local farmers market.
8. The beautiful DuPont Estates
We're so lucky to be able to visit the Hagley Museum, stroll the grounds of Winterthur, and explore the formal gardens of Nemours. The "First Family of Delaware" sure left a mark on their home state, and each of their properties brings something beautiful to life.
9. The small towns and close-knit communities.
Delaware is a great place to settle down thanks to the small towns and close-knit communities that somehow survived the Northeast's ever-growing population. You'll feel like part of the family no matter where you settle down.
