Is there anything better than a perfectly cheesy, wonderfully crispy slice of pizza pie? Pizza has made quite a name for itself not only in its home country of Italy but on its own terms in the United States. If you haven’t had a slice of Chicago deep dish or New York-style pizza, have you really tried all this decadent meal has to offer? Well, the USA is missing out on one more rendition of pizza greatness: The Big Ed’s Pizza slice. Located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, this locally owned and operated eatery serves up some of the best pizza in the entire state, and there’s no question: it’s a must-try. Learn how you can indulge for yourself with all the details below!
Big Ed's Pizza has made quite a name for itself here in Tennessee. It's been open continuously in its current space since 1970, though the famed eatery has been in the works since 1961. It's a truly iconic Oak Ridge institution!
You can order the Big Ed's Special, served with ham, sausage, mushroom, onion and green pepper, or the BBQ chicken option, topped with smoked chicken, BBQ sauce, jalapenos, red onions, and cilantro.
There's always the build-your-own option, too! Add toppings like hickory smoked country bacon, hamburger, pineapple and anchovies to whatever combination of cheese, sauce and crust you're looking to create.
Big Ed's Pizza now offers a ten-inch gluten free pizza option as well, if you're looking. Pizzas come in either ten, twelve or fourteen inch rounds, so make sure to plan accordingly. Grab a beer or a Coke and you're on your way to pure pizza bliss.
You can visit Big Ed's Pizza from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. from Monday to Thursday, and until 10:30 on Fridays and Saturdays. Big Ed's Pizza is closed on Sundays.
