This year the event will take place April 25th from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. But anytime around this date would be great for viewing the trees in bloom.

These trees are planted all over the city and they've been celebrated with a festival since 1971. The tradition of the dogwood trees dates back to World War II when they were planted in honor of family members serving in the Armed Forces.
And then when the festival began in 1971, neighbors also started illuminating the dogwood trees and other flowering plants with spotlights once the sun went down.

This magical tradition continues in Audubon Park today, so consider a visit at nighttime, as well.
