Rhode Island may be known as the Ocean State, but we also have some pretty impressive bodies of fresh water, many of which are man-made lakes (the rest are natural lakes, rivers, and coastal lagoons). Rhode Island’s largest natural lake happens to be known as Worden Pond — and while the water itself is shallow, the lake is pretty massive.
We’re lucky to have access to so many ocean beaches in our beautiful state. That being said, sometimes it’s important to appreciate our freshwater spots, too. Worden Pond is definitely a piece of living history.
