Small town Kansans seem to care a bit more about how much their customers like their food. For that reason, we always recommend going to those tiny spots you may miss otherwise. You likely haven’t ever heard of Protection, Kansas, but you may be a frequent flier here soon. From homemade donuts to an array of scratch cooking dinners, you’ll find plenty to eat at Don’s place. Small town Kansas never tasted so good.
Welcome to a tiny restaurant in a tiny town, Don's Place in Protection, Kansas.
Ever since September 1973, Don and Cindy Dellinger have been working hard to make amazing meals for Kansans near and far. The restaurant's cozy and friendly atmosphere makes you feel right at home, almost as if you were family and not a customer.
One of the big draws to Don's is the homemade donuts you'll want to stuff your face with. It's one of the best ways to start your day, if you're finding yourself in the neighborhood early in the day.
They serve food all day, moving from standard breakfast plates to burgers and fries, and the best part is that everything's homemade. Just like in your kitchen at home, they work hard to make sure these meals taste like they came from the heart.
Of course, being in business so long means that the homemade pies are simply amazing. We recommend getting a slice of whatever you can get your hands on for a sweet way to end your stay.
If you're ever traveling west of Medicine Lodge on your way through Kansas, a stop here is highly recommended. The friends and from scratch cooking are just too good to pass up.
