It’s never too early to start planning an epic summer vacation and we can’t think of a more novel way to enjoy Fontana Lake than by spending a few nights (or longer!) in this incredible floating lakehouse.
Created in the 1940s with the opening of Fontana Dam, the lake is roughly 17 miles long and dips into some of the most remote areas of the Great Smoky Mountains. It's long been a favorite spot for relaxation and several types of recreation.
Prepare for an adventurous vacation like no other when you rent the Floating Lakehouse (pictured here). It's available on VRBO for a minimum three-night stay, but once you're there, you'll want to stay longer!

The adventure begins with a short 1.5-mile shuttle on a pontoon from a landing where you'll leave your car and bring your belongings. (Don't forget the fishing poles and sunscreen!)
Once you arrive, there's a pontoon boat at the house that you'll have full access to. For stays under five nights, there is an additional fee for the pontoon.
The Floating Lakehouse features two bedrooms. The first floor bedroom includes a cozy queen-sized bed. Imagine falling asleep to the sounds of the water right outside the window...
At this vacation villa, in fact, it's water, water, everywhere. The views are astounding and the sunsets over the surrounding mountains are unforgettable.
The house is powered by solar energy, yet still equipped with air conditioning. However, summer in the mountains rarely requires air conditioning, right?
An additional two queen-sized beds are located in the loft. Officially, the house is equipped to comfortably sleep eight guests.
If you have little ones along on this vacation, keep in mind that you will likely want to bring life jackets, as there are no railings along the edges of the decking outside the floating lakehouse.
