If you’re looking for a great place to ski after a heavy snowfall, Eaglecrest Ski Area in Juneau, Alaska just received 124 inches of fresh powder since January 26th! Hop on a plane and spend the weekend on a gorgeous mountain in deep drifts of snow. If your idea of heaven is winter in Alaska, then you have to experience this winter wonderland!
Eaglecrest Ski Area is a community-owned and operated ski area on Douglas Island in Juneau, Alaska.
You'll find it located in the perfect spot, only a short 15-minute drive from downtown Juneau. The mountain offers 1,620 feet of vertical mountain drop, with incredible backcountry terrain for you to explore.
The storms have been fast and furious in the Juneau area, dumping considerable amounts of snow each day.
Starting on January 26th, 124 inches of snow has fallen on the summit of the mountain. That means 10 huge, powdery feet of snow to play in, accumulated in a short three weeks!
In fact, the entire season has been spectacular, boasting 266 inches of snow on the summit so far.
From February 10th through February 13th, 17 inches of fresh snow fell, which means incredible skiing on fresh powder for you and your friends and family! If you've been dying to get out and ski or snowboard, now is the time.
There's hardly ever a lift line on this gorgeous mountain, which means you can fit in plenty of runs in a short amount of time.
The forecast is actually calling for more snow on the mountain in the following days. With 640 acres to explore, there is so much to do. If you're not feeling like downhill skiing, you can always try their Nordic trails, which have all been groomed for classic or skate skiing.
If you get hungry running up and down the mountain all day, make sure to stop in at the Eaglecrest Grill.
You can order breakfast, lunch, and snacks all day long. Find your favorites like homemade soups or juicy burgers, or dig into their famous breakfast burritos.
There are many different ticket prices for you to purchase, depending on your age, whether you're a seasonal pass holder, or more.
Military, seniors, college, and youth all have discounted lift passes. Adults are $58 for a full day ticket, and $48 for a half day that starts at noon. They also offer a free lift ticket if you bring your boarding pass from Alaska Airlines, the Alaska Marine Highway System, or Alaska Seaplanes to the ticket office. You must have traveled the same day you purchase the pass!
If this is too tantalizing to pass up, you can visit Eaglecrest Ski Area five days a week.
Ski this incredible area Thursday through Monday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The lifts on the mountain run until 3:30 pm after January 20th, and 4 p.m. after February 24th. During spring break from March 19th through March 30th, you can visit daily! They are normally closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
