The Greater River Road Area between Baton Rouge and New Orleans is home to some of the most historic plantations not just in Louisiana, but the entire country. It’s this historic little road where you’ll find the iconic plantations like Oak Alley, Houmas House, Laura Plantation, and countless others. While Oak Alley may be the most famous plantation, there’s one that’s absolutely massive and you simply have to see it to believe it, and that’s the Nottoway Plantation in White Castle.
You’ll find the Nottoway Plantation tucked away in the tiny town of White Castle, Louisiana.
Built in 1859, this massive plantation house clocks in at a whopping 53,000-square-feet of floor space, making it the largest remaining antebellum plantation house in the South.

The Greek Revival and Italianate-styled mansion was built by John Randolph with the help of architect Henry Howard with the intention that no expense would be spared in the construction of this dazzling plantation. Mission accomplished.
