What is Evans Plunge, and where is it?  

Evans Plunge is, in short, the oldest tourist attraction in South Dakota! The long version, however, is that it’s a wonderful, naturally warm thermal spring offering up all sorts of rest and relaxation. Once upon a time, it was used by Native Americans for its alleged healing and spiritual properties. In 1890, it became a resort and escape from the stress and bustle of real life... at least for a little while. You’ll find it hidden away in Hot Springs, South Dakota.

At the time of this writing, there are more than a dozen hot springs in South Dakota that are known about and named. Some are, of course, much more popular than others; some of the most popular hot springs in SD are actually in a town named Hot Springs, and they are:

  • Cascade Falls – This warm spring is located just eight miles south of Hot Springs (the town) and is absolutely beautiful.  
  • The Stroppel Hotel and Mineral Baths – Once again, humans have managed to build a resort around natural springs, but this one is so wonderful it’s worth mentioning at least once!
