Do you have an interest in planes or aviation in general? While you can always spend the money to go back to school and get your pilot’s license, there is an easier way to get your airplane fix, especially if you live right here in Colorado. How? We recommend visiting the incredible Wings Over The Rockies Air and Space Museum, which is considered to be one of the best aviation museums in America:
Hiding out in Denver's old Lowry Air Base is the Wings Over The Rockies Air and Space Museum, which was just named one of the best museums in the country!
Recently released by USA Today's 10Best, the 10 of the best aviation and aerospace museums in the country pays homage to a few of these must-visit places including the Smithsonian in Washington D.C., Kennedy Space Center in Florida, and our very own Wings over the Rockies.
Established in 1994, the Wings Over The Rockies works to preserve the history of the Lowry Air Force Base's operations through one-of-a-kind collections and extensive archives you will not find anywhere else.
Do you or someone you know love airplanes? Then get ready to fly high from visiting the Blue Sky Aviation Gallery, which is located on the south side of Centennial Airport and houses interactive exhibits, an opportunity to speak with experts, and unique pilot-quality flight simulators!
The Blue Sky Aviation Gallery is open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
In addition to the aviation portion, there is also the namesake Air & Space Museum, which has everything from limited-time exhibits to a virtual reality lounge, simulator experiences, and can't-miss permanent displays.
While the exhibits themselves are reason enough to visit, the Wings Over The Rockies Air and Space Museum also hosts a number of special events and educational opportunities, all of which can be found on their website .
Admission to the Wings Over The Rockies costs $16.95 for adults 17 to 64, $12.95 for seniors 65+, and $9.95 for children ages 4 to 16.
The Wings Over The Rockies Air and Space Museum is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
