Have you ever watched a dog sled race? It’s a thrilling event to witness, with beautiful, athletic dogs and their mushers speeding over the snowy landscape. There’s an annual event held right here in Oregon that includes four races, one of which is a qualifier for the Iditarod and Yukon Quest races. You’re going to want to make plans now to attend!

The Eagle Cap Extreme includes four different races: a 200 mile, 12-dog team race; a 100 mile, 8-dog team race; a 31 mile, 6-dog race over a two-day period; and a 22-mile, 6-dog junior race for mushers 14-17 years old.

The 200-mile race is a qualifying race for teams who hope to participate in the Iditarod and Yukon Quest races.
The 2020 Eagle Cap Extreme kicks off on January 22nd with the vet check, which is open to the public.

The vet checks are held in Enterprise at 9 a.m. and at Joseph at 1 p.m. You're welcome to hang out and watch the veterinarians give each dog a thorough check-up. The vets will also be on hand to answer questions about the dogs and the upcoming races.
The gorgeous dogs who pull the sleds are quite the athletes. They're strong, disciplined, and athletic.

The starting line is at the Ferguson Ridge Ski Area, and shuttles are available to take you from the parking lot to the start line. Get there early to cheer on your favorite team!
Want to see the dogs mid-race to cheer them on? Head to Salt Creek Summit.

You'll need a Snow Park Pass to hike or ski the 1/4 mile to the trail. The mushers and their teams will pass by sometime between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Teams start arriving at the finish line from the evening of Thursday, January 23rd to the morning of Saturday, January 25th.

The Juniors race and 31 mile 2-day races cross the finish line on Thursday and Friday evenings. The 100-mile race finishes on Friday morning, and the 200-mile race finishes on Saturday morning through afternoon.
After the races are over, you can join the mushers, handlers, and volunteers at the award banquet. Tickets are just $20 for the general public ($8 for children ages 5-12).
