If there’s one food we Texans love more than anything else, it’s barbecue. Our love runs so deep, in fact, that we’re willing to travel to all corners of the state in search of the best, most tender and flavorful meat. Luckily, all that driving won’t be necessary next month because the restaurants are coming to us! Houston is hosting its 8th annual barbecue festival on Sunday, April 5, and it’s something y’all don’t want to miss.
Once a year, over a dozen iconic barbecue restaurants from all over Texas convene to celebrate the cuisine that defines our state. The three-hour event allows guests to eat until their heart's content for the price of entry alone.
There will be no competition or rankings here; just sheer appreciation for the pitmasters who slave away on the grill simply to please our taste buds. It takes great talent to cook so much volume at once and achieve perfect quality control.
Stuff your face with brisket, sausage, turkey, and several other types of meat, all slow-smoked to fall-off-the-bone perfection. Notice the lack of sauce, which is a wholly unnecessary addition and only serves to cover up bad BBQ. But using cornbread in place of white? Genius.
Some joints dare to deviate from the norm with unique cultural dishes that pack a punch when it comes to flavor. Eureka Heights Brewing Company specializes in Korean BBQ delicacies like spicy gochujang fried chicken wings and pork belly burnt ends.
Let's talk about sides, baby! Everyone knows shoveling coleslaw, potato salad, mac 'n cheese, and baked beans into your mouth between bites of meat makes for the best dining experience.
General admission is currently $60 and gets you unlimited samples, while $120 VIP tickets include the additional perks of early entry by one hour, a T-shirt, and one drink ticket. Pre-sale prices won't last forever, so get your tickets ASAP!
Address: 8233 Will Clayton Parkway, Humble, TX 77338. The festival runs from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 5, however VIP ticket holders can enter at noon.
