Bigger isn’t always better, especially when it comes to pubs. Here in Cleveland, locals adore neighborhood bars and diners where everyone knows your name. We crave this small-town intimacy, and many Clevelanders could easily point you to their favorite local landmarks. However, whenever a Clevelander recommends Close Quarters, it comes with a vague explanation: “it’s really small.” As it turns out, Close Quarters is the smallest bar in Ohio, as well as one of the tiniest anywhere in the world. It belongs on every local bucket list, but be warned — this tiny bar will take you back to a time before cell phones, flat screens, and social media, so bring a bit of conversation!
For decades, locals have enjoyed a more intimate dining experience at Close Quarters Pub.
Though this tiny local business has had many names over the years, locals have known it as Close Quarters since 1985. Surrounded by residences in a quiet part of Avon Lake, it's no wonder people travel from all over Cleveland for an intimate experience here.
At only 600 square feet, this eclectic little pub has only 11 or 12 bar stools.
This tiny pub has appeared on countless lists of tiny bars, earning Avon Lake recognition in the world of intimate dining. As tiny as it is, its menu is fairly extensive. Be sure to try the wings!
The tiny space is jam-packed with decor, though the bar takes up most of the space.
It seems that every inch of wall and ceiling space is occupied by photos, mementos, and decorations. This pub has its own unique vibe and you won't be able to draw your attention away from its unusual atmosphere.
While you dine, you might notice one other interest aspect of this bar: there's no television.
In this modern day and age, it's rare to see a bar without a TV or two. At Close Quarters, however, things are pretty old fashioned. You'll find yourself wanting to chat with other visitors in the pub, and you'll find yourself laughing every time a new conversation is sparked by bumping knees or elbows in this tiny space.
This unique local landmark is like anywhere else in the state!
While there are many teeny tiny communities, few businesses in the area could prosper in such a minuscule space. Close Quarters is truly unique, and it belongs on every Cleveland area bucket list.
A trip to the smallest bar in Ohio is always unforgettable, and you truly never know what sort of conversation you’ll encounter during your visit. Have you ever visited this tiny local landmark? We’d love to hear about your experience!
Local dining doesn’t have to be fancy to be delectable. Swing by some of Cleveland’s most eccentric restaurants for a hot dog!
