With any visit to the coast, travelers expect to find a seafood boil in which to indulge, but few opportunities to order up one of these combination seafood dinners exist in locales that are far from the coast. Until now. In 2019, a build-your-own seafood boil restaurant opened in Greensboro and the feast is on!
Red Crab Juicy Seafood is found just off Interstate 40 at the West Gate City Boulevard exit and currently boasts an average 4.2 stars among Google reviews and 4.3 stars on the restaurant's Facebook page.
While the menu includes other seafood options, it's the build-your-own seafood boil that draws most people into Red Crab.
Here's how it works: First, choose your seafood. Most people only choose one, but if you have a large group and want to combine several kinds of seafood into one big boil, then Red Crab will accommodate.
The price for each includes the boil's potatoes and corn (sausage can be included for an added cost). Among the seafood choices are: blue crab (seasonal), shrimp, snow crab legs, crawfish, clams, black mussels, green muscles, king crab legs, lobster, and dungeness crab. Each order includes 1/2 pound of each kind of seafood you want in your boil.
Second: Pick your seasoning sauce - or choose none at all. The choices are Cajun, lemon pepper, garlic butter, and a combination of all three, called the Juicy Special.
To keep your meal nice and toasty, it arrives in a sealed bag on top of your serving bowl.
Some reviewers who gave low scores after dining, blamed the bag simply because they didn't expect it. Don't blame the bag... it's keeping all of your flavor inside until you open it and pour everything into that huge serving bowl underneath.
Also, this is the kind of meal where fashion will be the least of your concern.
Everyone gets a bib and your meal also arrives with a set of plastic gloves, should you decide you need them.
While dining at the Red Crab is probably not something you'd do every day, the build-your-own seafood boil is a wonderful rendition of a tried-and-true favorite.
What seafood will you include in your boil?
