Francophiles in Nashville, Tennessee are bound to be rejoicing. There’s finally an eatery in town that honors the country of France in all of its beautiful eccentricities, from its high-minded interior design focus to a menu that will transport you straight to Provence of Marseilles or Lyon. Once Upon A Time In France is inspired by Paris in the 1920s, and is the closest thing Music City has to a time machine. Step inside, fall in love, and return. Again and again and again.
Once Upon A Time In France prides itself on not being a "typical" American restaurant, and has focused on presenting a French bistro concept to guests. There's nothing snobby about this sweet space. It's a neighborhood eatery, a friendly, light-infused restaurant that serves folks on a first-come, first-served basis.
Although there is no reservation policy, the wait is worth the time. Indulge in a plate of escargot followed by roasted duck or steak frites. The beef bourguignon is slow-cooked in red wine and served with linguine and pearl mushrooms. Top off the meal with creme brulee for dessert, or perhaps a crepe pompadour with chantilly, chocolate coulis, and vanilla ice cream.
Know that Once Upon A Time In France does not tout itself as a fine dining establishment. It's going to be busy when you come by, it's going to be loud and warm and friendly and full of laughter. If you're looking for a rote meal and a standard experience, this isn't the place for you. If you're seeking a warm place full of wide smiles and decadent eats? Well, then pull up a seat.
