The holiday season is in full swing, and if you’re looking for a cute town to spend some time in over the next month, Baker City is a great choice. It’s got lots of community events, and plenty of outdoor activities to keep everyone in the family happy and occupied.
You'll find Baker City in eastern Oregon, along I-84 near the Idaho border. It's a thriving little town with around 10,000 people.
The season starts with the Festival of Trees, which runs December 5th through the 7th. All proceeds go to support Saint Alphonsus Medical center.
You'll have opportunities to get photos with Santa, make some holiday mementos at the kids' craft tables, and wander through tons of brightly-lit trees.
The town kicks off its holiday fun with the annual Twilight Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting on Saturday, December 7th.
Get there early for the Cookie Crawl. Start at Crossroads Art Center, where each family will receive a cookie box. Then, stop by as many as 25 downtown businesses to pick up Christmas cookies to fill your box!
The parade starts at 5 p.m. on Madison Street, and proceeds down to Valley Avenue.
As soon as the parade is finished, the city's tree will be lit! Enjoy tasty hot cocoa served by the Lions Club, and stay warm at the many warming barrels along Main Street.
The Geiser Grand Hotel is one of the town's most prominent spots, and it's home to several fun Christmas events.
Snuggle into a winter sleigh for a tour through the downtown area. The sleigh operates all throughout the winter, starting on December 14th, and it departs from the Geiser Grand.
Stop in for a meal at the Geiser Grand's two restaurants: 1889 Cafe and Palm Court. They're both decorated and ready to celebrate the season.
You can also enjoy Holiday High Tea at the Geiser Grand on December 7th, 14th, and 21st. This is a favorite holiday tradition for many Oregonians.
There's plenty of outdoor recreation in and around Baker City, too. Take a winter adventure snowshoe stroll amongst the trees at the Anthony Lakes Nordic Center...
...or tear it up on the slopes at Anthony Lakes Mountain Resort.
While you're having a blast on the mountain, make sure to mind your manners...Santa just might be there, and he's watching to see if you're naughty or nice 😉
