Certain occasions in life call for a special dining experience. Luckily, Rhode Island is home to one of the most beautiful restaurants in the entire nation. Th Dorrance in downtown Providence offers so much more than delicious food (although they have plenty of that) — you’ll truly feel like you’ve gone back in time as soon as you step inside.
The Dorrance is located in the Union Trust Building, which was built in 1901.
And even standing outside, you can tell that this space holds something special.
The dining area will take you straight back to the Gilded Age, that time of technological transformation around the turn of the 20th century.
The attention to detail will take your breath away. The decorative touches of marble, stained glass, and crystal are truly incredible.
It's easy to see why this massive space is one of the most sought after venues for weddings and other private events.
The high, ornate ceilings and lavish decor make for some seriously stunning photos.
The Dorrance is owned by the Lester family, who designed the eatery in 2010.
The family's goal was always to have a place to share their passion for food, wine, cocktails, and good company. Needless to say, they succeeded.
The Lesters hired some incredibly talented people to help them with their vision, a venture that also paid off -- The Dorrance has won numerous awards, including being listed as one of the Top 100 Restaurants in the United States by Opinionated About Dining.
Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or you're just in the mood for a fantastic fine dining experience, this place never disappoints.
Speaking of dining... the food here is phenomenal.
The food can best be described as globally inspired New England cuisine, and the menu changes regularly. That's because they use local in-season ingredients whenever possible.
Don't let the upscale ambiance and refined decor deter you -- the food here is beautifully presented, but it's not pretentious.
The Dorrance Burger is one of the their best sellers, and you'll always see classics like pasta and steak and potato dishes on the menu.
The Dorrance is open Tuesday - Saturday at 5 p.m. for dinner service, closing at midnight during the week and 2 a.m on Fridays and Saturdays.
On Sundays and Mondays, they'll only open for private events.
