Tennessee is known for being a lush, beautiful state, but it still has a few secrets up its sleeve. Sure, most folks are going to head to Cummins Falls or Fall Creek Falls, and hordes of tourists make their way through the Great Smoky Mountains every year. But have you been to the Hurricane Bridge Recreation Area? Tucked away on Tennessee’s Highland Rim, it’s an oft-forgotten gem that makes for a beautiful day spent in the state’s wilderness.
Center Hill Lake is made up of more than 64-miles of waterways, and it stretches all the way up to the Caney Fork River. Famed for its recreational opportunities and grand beauty, it's a truly natural playground.
There are 415 miles of shoreline, which means you can hike, hunt and camp alongside the lake. After a long day of boating or fishing, there's really nothing better than putting your feet up by the campfire and telling stories late into the night.
The bridge itself was built in 1949 and continues to provide stunning views of the Caney Fork River and the surrounding areas. At 1,786 feet long, folks traveling the State Highway have time to get a solid look at the DeKalb County beauty.
There's a day-use picnic shelter at the Hurricane Bridge Recreation Area, and up to 125 guests can indulge in the stunning space. Keep your eye out of the wild turkey, squirrels, and rabbits that roam the park!
The park is overlooked by the Hurricane Bridge, so it's never hard to find. Even better? The recreation area is located on a small peninsula, so you'll have views from three sides of the picnic area.
Camping is roughly $50 a day at the Hurricane Bridge Recreation Area, and it can be booked online by way of the link below. Hurricane Bridge Recreation Area is close to Edgar Evins State Park and Burgess Falls State Park as well, so there's no lack of nature-centric fun to be had.
