Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary is nestled next to the Patuxent River in Upper Marlboro.
The grounds are open sunrise to sunset...
...and the Frank Oslislo Visitor Center is open on weekends from 10am - 4pm. This is a great spot to start, where you can visit with the animals, including turtles, snakes, and an an eastern screech owl. Enjoy the informational displays, too...
...and then head outdoors to explore. There are four trails total and they're all 3-miles or less.
