Leah moved to North Dakota when she was 12 years old and has traveled from the Red River Valley to the badlands and many places in between. She loves small-town life and currently enjoys living on a small farm in the ND prairie. She's always had a passion for writing and has participated in novel writing challenges such as NaNoWriMo multiple times. Her favorite part about this job is recognizing small businesses that deserve a boost and seeing the positive affect her articles can have on their traffic, especially in rural areas that might have otherwise gone overlooked.
Editor’s Note: Since the publication of this article, the Edinburg General Store has permanently closed.
Though most general stores have seemed to disappear over the years (unless we’re talking gas station convenience store chains), there are still a few of them hidden out there. North Dakota used to have a general store in nearly every town, but now you’ll have to dig to find the few true general stores that are left. One of these is located in the charming town of Edinburg, and it’s a lot more than meets the eye.
Have you ever given this unusual yet totally cool store a visit? The store is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Mondays through Fridays, and until 5 p.m. on Saturdays. You can give them a call at (701)-993-8122
Check out these vintage photos of North Dakota for a look back into the days when these kinds of stores were a common part of life.
