From warriors to royalty, the Hawaiian Islands are home to some of the nation’s most fascinating history — and the historic homes to prove it. You will certainly find awe-inspiring mansions with unbelievable views and modest homes alike throughout the Aloha State, and visiting these historic homes is one of the best ways to learn more about Hawaii’s unique history and culture. Even better than a simple visit, though? Spending a night or two in one of Hawaii’s most beautiful historic homes.
Built in 1899, this authentic Victorian home was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in the 1960s due to its historic significance and its architecture.
The 8-acre lot is also home to a guest house, servants’ quarters, gardens and a garage, offering visitors the unique opportunity to experience the monarchy period of Old Hawaii.
The Shipman House was once a prominent bed and breakfast operated by the great-granddaughter of W.H. Shipman, and while unfortunately, it has closed, visitors can stay in one of two guest cottage rooms offered on Airbnb.
Just blocks from downtown Hilo, each cottage room comfortably sleeps two guests and features a cozy queen bed, large glass computer desk, fridge, and private bath. Free onsite parking and wi-fi are also included.
And that’s not even the best part: each of the rooms is listed for just $87 per night — a total steal for a charming journey back in time to experience Old Hawaii at its finest.
Would you stay in the Shipman House guest cottage? For more information, or to book your stay, visit the Airbnb listing for both the mauka and makai rooms.
