The famed speakeasy made its debut as early as 1889, when a newspaper in Pennsylvania first published a story about the rowdy, unlicensed saloons that were popping up around the city. By the time of prohibition, they’d become a national phenomenon, bringing the nation together as they tossed drinks back in secret. Of course, now it’s quite legal to drink, but the mystery and fun associated with the old school speakeasy is still alive and well. If you’re looking to experience the mystery and fun of the past, then make sure to check out The Patterson House in Nashville’s Midtown neighborhood.
