The window of time to see fall foliage in Montana is fairly narrow, especially since our winters tend to start early. That being said, if you have the time to take an October road trip, you don’t have to drive all the way to Whitefish or Glacier National Park to see autumn’s finest hues. The Paradise Valley Scenic Loop is often more accessible, and it’s stunning this time of year.

It starts just south of Livingston, where you'll head south on US Highway 89.
This stretch of highway stays packed during the summer, as people make their way to and from Yellowstone National Park.

When you reach the Emigrant area, turn around and head up Highway 540 back toward Livingston.

You'll eventually merge back on to US-89 North and return to your starting point. This scenic loop is stunning in any season, but there's truly something magical about it in the fall.
