San Antonio’s rich cultural heritage makes holidays a blast, and the creepiest event of the year is coming up: Day of the Dead. Alamo City puts on an unparalleled Dia de Los Muertos celebration annually, with over 20 different attractions for the entire family. Here are the spooktacular details:
Beginning on October 26, this week-long celebration features over 20 different events. It's the largest Dia de los Muertos festival in America!
Vendors set up shop at the most macabre marketplace you've ever visited. Come home with jewelry, artwork, clothing, and tons more spooktacular wares sure to give your home and wardrobe a dark makeover.
Dancers take to the streets, their vibrant gowns and ghostly pale faces contrasting sharply against one another. Their performance is followed by a nighttime parade, where decked out gondolas turn the River Walk into a captivatingly creepy display of color.
Stop by the community altar and pay homage to all the loved ones, both yours and those of other festival attendees, who have passed on. Perhaps leave a tamale, grasshopper, or Pan de Muerto to show your appreciation.
Don't leave without getting your face painted! Talented artists adorn the whole family in a traditional calavera design, signifying that we are all equal in death.
