There are so many amazing state parks in Louisiana, it’s really difficult to pick just one. But through visiting and spending time in the various parks in and around the state, I have to say that for nature lovers, Chico State Park truly takes the cake.
First of all, there is a 20-mile hiking trail within the park. That is truly a special addition to a state park, as there are few trails this long at any other park. The trail also stops along gorgeous primitive camping areas that allow visitors to feel like they are in the deep swampy woods.

The park is set along Lake Chicot, which is lined in Cypress trees and has a truly swampy feel. It’s simply breathtaking. When you visit, you can rent canoes and take a trip around the lake, and plenty of wildlife will follow.

For those looking to make a romantic weekend out of their visit, the cabins for rent at Chicot are very special. Set upon the water, the adorable cabins allow amazing views of the lake and make for a cozy and sweet vacation.

This wonderful set of trails offers tons of great information about the wildlife and plant life around the park, as well as an educational nature center that is a great opportunity for kids and adults alike to learn about the amazing nature that exists in Louisiana.
All in all, Chicot is a truly special state park and I recommend everyone take a visit one of these days. In addition to the trails, scenery and wildlife, there is amazing fishing, swimming and play areas that truly make the park spectacular.
