It almost seems like every time we turn around there is another story about Florida that is making us scratch our heads and wonder if stuff like this happens anywhere else in the country. Florida has some pretty uniquely weird moments in its claim to fame—in fact, there are so many, that they usually are categorized by year in order to organize them all. But if you’re looking for a list of some of the weirdest things to happen in Florida no matter the year, you’ve come to the right place.
1. Man who seemingly thinks he’s a Viking, swings his own Viking ax at cops.
In April of 2016, Stanley Tonkin of Redington Shores, Florida thought he was a Norwegian Viking when he began swinging his Viking ax at law enforcement while screaming, "Come on, Valhalla!"
2. In a clear cry for help, an opossum breaks into a liquor store to drink solo.
In 2017, a female opossum broke into a closed liquor store in order to snag a bottle of whiskey. The opossum was discovered by the Cash Liquor store employee, passed out next to an empty whiskey bottle. Still unknown is the skunk who broke her heart.
Note: the opossum was fine afterward. She was flushed with fluids at the Emerald Coast Wildlife refuge.

3. Man submits job application to gas station, then proceeds to rob it.
Talk about making a really dumb decision—a Florida man handed over a job application to work at a Citgo, but then decided he was going to take money from the cash register when the cashier turned around. Lo and behold, the camera caught the guy in action. Not surprising about the whole thing? He didn’t get the job.

4. State ban on dwarf-tossing in bars was on track to be repealed.
This one is a weirdo-twofer. First off, having a specific ban on tossing dwarfs in a bar is weird in and of itself. However, what’s even weirder, is the fact that someone in the Florida government system was looking to repeal it. Thanks a lot, State Representative Ritch Workman.
A man in Florida was arrested by law enforcement who mistook the donut crumbs on his shirt for drugs. After the mistake was uncovered, the man sued the cops and ended up winning $37,500 in the lawsuit.
6. Man steals dollar bills from a bar wall—then attempts to spend them at Publix.
Danny Limongelli broke into the Siesta Key Oyster Bar in 2018 and snagged $150 in singles off the wall. You know what he wanted to spend the dollar bills on? A Publix sandwich. However, cashiers found it quite odd that the wad of bills handed over was marked with patron’s names and the year they tacked up the bills. Authorities were called and Limongelli was arrested soon after.
7. A restaurant in Florida no longer allows "Monkey Mondays" after a patron monkey bites fellow diners.
U.S. representative Bettina Rodriguez Aguilera who was running for Congress in Miami back in 2017 was very open about her ability to talk to aliens. Aguilera claims she was visited by an alien ship when she was young and still communicates with them telepathically. The aliens had apparently dropped some truth bombs during their visit, including the fact that Coral Castle in Miami is actually an ancient Egyptian pyramid.

9. Family in Deerfield Beach wakes up to falling sausage on roof.
While it has always been my dream to step into a world where Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs comes to life, it wasn’t the case for this family in Deerfield Beach. 15 pounds of frozen Italian sausages fell onto the roof of their home, which prompted the family to call the meat provider written on the packages. No explanation was offered—yet the family was set for their next family barbecue.
