Holmes Medical Museum is located in Foley, Alabama. At one time this museum's building housed Baldwin County's first hospital (Sibley Holmes Memorial Hospital), which was in business from 1936 to 1958.
This one-of-a-kind museum includes a variety of rooms that have been recreated to look like they did when the building was used as a hospital, including the Exam Rooms.
Speaking of medical tools, there's a variety of displays that showcase specific medical tools that doctors used in the early 20th century, including the osteotomy device below. This special tool was used to re-break bones for healing purposes.
The museum's Radiated Water Urn remains one of its most interesting items. This ceramic urn was popular during the early 1900s because many people believed the radium helped prevent ailments, when in fact it was actually hazardous.
