The garden was initially established in 1958 by Fred Gallaway who was the official City of Reno horticulturist for more than 25 years.

  • Ethel M Chocolate Factory and Botanical Cactus Garden (Henderson): This three-acre garden is Nevada’s largest cactus garden offering more than 300 species. You'll see cacti and succulents native to the American Southwest and desert trees and shrubs from the Southwestern United States, Australia, and South America. And, of course, tour the chocolate factory while you're there!
  • Wilbur D. May Arboretum (Reno): Folks can sit on a bench at the University of Nevada to admire these lovely garden grounds full of diverse plants and seasonal displays. Or, take a walk along the paved and packed-gravel paths to appreciate the creative landscapes.
  • Heritage Park Gardens (Gardnerville): This pleasant experience includes a community growing garden and several walking paths. Take in some shade on the gazebo or enjoy a giant game of chess with oversized pieces!

 

What are some of the most interesting gardens in Nevada?

  • Nature Discovery Trail and Rock Garden (Boulder City): Among the Joshua trees, prickly pears, and chollas are some of the largest statues we've ever seen. These desert animal statues include a giant jackrabbit, scorpion, roadrunner, horned lizard, and other exciting sculptures. A colorful rock garden also exists and you can receive awesome views of the city. You can walk the 1,800-foot trail that ends at a covered pavilion with a picnic table.
  • Rancho San Rafael Regional Park (Reno): The 580 lovely acres offer a diverse landscape from a wetland habitat to dusty sagebrush. It's better known for hosting the Great Reno Balloon Race every year.
