Follow The Glacial Fed Stream To A Hidden Lake On Ptarmigan Lake Trail In Alaska

The trailhead is located in the Ptarmigan Creek Campground Day Use parking area. It's right off the Seward highway, only a short drive from Seward.

Its blue waters provide a lovely view as you're hiking along the 6.8 mile out and back trail. Because most of the trail follows along the creek, there's little elevation gain.

This does provide some beautiful views across the Chugach Mountain Range! But nothing too strenuous, and most of the trail is very easy.

There are also small bridges over creek overflow areas. The entire trail is well maintained by the USDA Forest Service.

You could even camp out here if you wanted to, as there is a nice level area by the waters. Some campers have even left a lovely little fire pit area and nice logs to sit on.

Just throw on your warmest hiking boots and brave the weather for gorgeous white views. Even when the lake is frozen over, the mountain range behind it has some peaks topping over 6,000 feet high that provide stunning scenery for the hike.

Enjoy the many beavers in the lake, or the promise of wildlife nearby. Make sure to be bear aware, as it is bear country! Practice safety by making noise and carrying bear spray. But mostly remember to have a great time on this fantastic hike.
