Pretty much the entire state of Oregon offers incredible views. Whether you’re gazing at the ocean, taking in city lights, or staring slack-jawed at one of our incredible waterfalls, you’ll probably spend a lifetime soaking in the beauty of this state.

Here’s a view that might leave you feeling just a little bit shaky, especially if you’re afraid of heights. But don’t worry – you’ll also be left in awe after you peer over the bridge into the deep chasm of the Crooked River Gorge.

Before you even get out of your car, we want to warn you now: Don't let your pup jump out of the car without his leash.

There's a short wall that skirts the cliffs here, but for some reason, several dogs have jumped to their deaths in this very spot.

No one is completely sure why this is happening, but many dogs race toward the wall and jump right over it....and fall down into the deep gorge. It happened here with such frequency that the park installed some additional fencing and several signs. Keep your dog on leash here, and obviously, keep a close eye on small children, too.
After all, it's a long way down. How far? 300 feet or so. You could almost fit the Statue of Liberty completely inside this gorge. Ready to get a close look?

Walk out onto the bridge. If you're afraid of heights, bring someone else along with you for moral support.

There are two bridges here: the Rex T. Barber Veterans Memorial Bridge, which is open to traffic, and the Crooked River High Bridge, which was completed in 1926, and is still open to foot traffic.

Check out the basalt cliffs that line this 4-mile-long gorge. They're steep and stately, and very impressive.

During particularly wet periods, you might see plenty of green foliage and even some small waterfalls tumbling down the cliffs into the Crooked River below.

A trip to the Peter Skene Ogden State Scenic Viewpoint is definitely worth your time. While you're there, enjoy a picnic, spend some time gazing down into the deep chasm, and take plenty of pics.
