If you’re in Kachemak Bay and you want to stroll along the Pacific Ocean, the Homer Beach Walk Trail takes you along some of the most beautiful views on the coastline! It’s easy to pop in at any point on this trail, and take in the peacefulness, along with the views of the mountains across the bay.
Homer is known for some of the most beautiful scenery in the state.
In fact, because it's a coastal town, you usually pair the gorgeous scenery with great weather, as well. That makes this trail one of the best in the state for views and weather!
If you hit the trail in the summer time expect to not just be wowed by the incredible mountain ranges in the distance, but the explosion of wildflowers along the trail!
Some of the most stunning of the flowers are definitely the lupine. Growing up to 3 feet tall, they'll frame your walk with beautiful purple colors!
This beach trail passes by some very fun scenery, including the local boat harbor.
Try to spot the fishing and crabbing boats among the pleasure cruisers. Some of the boats have even been on the Discovery Channel show, "The Deadliest Catch."
The trail is a good six and a half miles long, although you can keep walking all the way to the end of the spit if you wanted.
You can walk along the water on the sand, although do be aware of the tides if you're strolling a little slower. If the tide comes in you'll have to climb up the boulders to the paved path.
As you meander along the beach you'll even come across some stores and restaurants situated on stilts.
This is a favorite area of bald eagles as well, so keep your eyes peeled! There are usually many juvenile bald eagles around as well. You'll know them by their solid brown color.
Much of the path is paved, which makes it perfect for not just walking but also bike riding and roller blading.
Keep watch for the "Boat Graveyard," with picturesque views of boats succumbing to the salt and sea. With the glaciers in the background of every photo, you'll leave with an entire album of beautiful shots!
This stunning trail can be accessed at almost any point along it.
The best place for parking is at the beginning of the Homer Spit, or at the end of it in the areas where there is public parking for the shops and restaurants. You can start at either end and turn around at any point!
