Lands End Road In South Carolina Is Said To Be Home To A Creepy, Unexplained Light Source

By day, a drive down the most haunted road in South Carolina seems uneventful, even pleasing. But don’t underestimate the power of a spirit at unrest; this road is known by locals to be home to a regularly encountered, yet unexplained light source – and driving here after dark can be an upending experience.

Lands End Road on Saint Helena Island is long thought to be haunted by the ghost of a Civil War soldier who met an unfortunate and untimely death.

The story of Private Quigley begins over on the grounds where the ruins of Fort Freemont are now found.

This abandoned fort was built long after the Civil War in 1899 and was only manned by the government for about 10 years. But the fort or occurrences at the fort during its time in service have nothing to do with the ghost or the unexplained light source commonly seen on Lands End Road.

During the Civil War (and long before the existence of Fort Fremont) some Civil War soldiers were set up here due to the location's strategic position on the Beaufort River.

During the ruckus, Pvt. Quigley was decapitated by one of the locals.

It's said Private Quigley can be seen walking up and down Lands End Road looking for his missing head. The light is most often spotted near the large tree in the black and white photo above.
