Even though Iowa is an agricultural state, our rural days are (mostly) behind us. More Iowans live in urban cities than in small, rural towns throughout the state, and that means we’re really getting our fill of pollution, smog, and busy, bustling streets. When you’re looking for a break from the noises and sights of the city, head to one West Des Moines trail that’s sure to capture your heart.
Browns Woods is Iowa's largest urban forest preserve, and this nearly 500 acre park is the perfect place to escape for a walk in the woods.
The sounds and sights of nature will certainly wake you up, and an invigorating stroll through the woods will leave you feeling rejuvenated and ready to take on the day.
You'll find nearly four miles of trails here to explore, but the most popular loop trail takes you on a 3.2-mile adventure up toward the Raccoon River.
