There’s a little piece of tropical paradise hiding out in Sonoma Wine Country and it’s a destination that everybody should check out at least once. This little-known hot spring resort has been providing family fun for generations, and it doesn’t look like they’re going anywhere anytime soon. Stop on by for a relaxing soak in their spring-fed pool, a picnic on their beautiful grounds, or a jaunt through the amazing landscape which surrounds them. Whether you’re celebrating a special event or you simply need a serene place to spend the day, this historic resort is bound to satisfy.
Nestled right along Sonoma Creek in the town of Glen Ellen, Morton's Warm Springs Resort has been a favorite place among locals since it was established in 1946. The next time you feel the need to relax and unwind, be sure to give this spot a chance!
The highlight of the resort is of course the heavenly spring-fed pools it contains. The story of these geothermal waters go back centuries. Indigenous people soaked in them for hundreds of years, and they were actually the first springs in the area to be further developed by white settlers in the 1880s.
The first bathhouse was constructed here in the late 19th century, but the resort didn't start operating as Morton's Warm Springs Resort until 1946. Since then, the resort has acted as a popular summertime destination for swimming, picnicking, recreation, and relaxing.
Morton's has changed owners a handful of times of the years, and most recently so in 2016. The new ownership has made it their duty to restore Morton's to the amazing piece of classic Americana that it was once was, and they've done a great job! Today, Morton's is like a little slice of tropical paradise right here in Sonoma County.
You could spend hours rejuvenating in the two geothermal pools. The resort also boasts a large grassy area surrounded by oak trees which is perfect for laying out and taking in the scenery. Picnic and BBQ sites are also available to guests.
Many visitors also choose to spend some time exploring the nearby creek. A path will take you right down to the creekside where you can cool off after soaking in the warm pools. This region is utterly tranquil and it's a great place to relax away from the crowds.
If you get hungry, you'll find that the organic on-site cafe has some tasty offerings to choose from. On the menu is a variety of delicious options, including hot dogs, sandwiches, salads, and ice cream—all of which are created with locally sourced ingredients.
