Down on the banks of the Tennessee River in the heart of Chattanooga is one of Tennessee’s most iconic and cherished landmarks: the Tennessee Aquarium. Widely lauded as one of the largest and best aquariums in the world, the Tennessee Aquarium is an institution dedicated to educating the public about marine wildlife and its preservation. And while this mission is fully on display throughout the year, it’s especially fun during Shark Week when the aquarium throws Shark Fest, its once-a-year event dedicated to the sea’s most feared predator.
And while folks at all times of year come to see all kinds of animals, there's a week in late July and/or early August every year dedicated entirely to sharks, and the Tennessee Aquarium lets you get close to them in a unique way.
No, this isn't what we're talking about. While there are plenty of events and activities that surround Shark Week, including the Aquarium's Shark Fest, you can get closer to real sharks than this.
There, that's more like it. While you won't be able to pet a shark in an open tank like this, the Shark Fest event does allow guests the opportunity to touch the skin of a real shark, making for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
But while you're at the aquarium, you need to make sure to check out all of their exhibits! When the aquarium opened in 1992, it had the largest freshwater tank in the world at 400,000 gallons. It's a sight you definitely don't want to pass up.
They also have all kinds of activities and demonstrations throughout the day for folks to enjoy. There's always something going on at the Tennessee Aquarium!
So whether you're into sharks or you just want to see some adorable otters play around in their pen, head down to the Tennessee Aquarium today and enjoy the show! Address: 1 Broad Street, Chattanooga, TN 37402
Visit the Tennessee Aquarium’s site to learn all about this special place. Be sure to keep an eye on their Events page to find out when the next Shark Week event will take place.
