There’s no denying that Alabama is filled with great history. With that being said, there are several towns throughout the state with historical villages that capture Alabama’s history and spirit. Listed below are eight historic villages in Alabama that will undoubtedly transport you to the past.
Arab Historic Village is a historical complex with structures dating back from the 1880s to the 1930s that have been preserved with authentic furnishings. This historical complex includes a country store, 1912 church, 1935 Old Hunt School, grist mill, museum, blacksmith shop, the Boyd House, etc. Arab Historic Village is the perfect place for school field trips, and it's located at 224 City Park Dr, Arab, AL 35016.

American Village is a recreated Colonial Village in Alabama where visitors will get to discover the power of America's journey for independence. A few of American Village's highlights include Washington Hall, Colonial Courthouse, Liberty Bell Garden, a full-size replica of the Oval Office and the National Veterans Shrine and Register of Honor. Mooresville, founded in 1818, is a serene village that appears to be untouched by time. Mooresville is nestled between Decatur and Huntsville, and it's the oldest incorporated town in Alabama. A couple of the town's historic buildings include the 1839 community brick church and the 1840 post office, the oldest operational post office in Alabama. Mooresville is often referred to as "Alabama's Williamsburg," and the ENTIRE town is included on the National Register of Historic Places.
Old Alabama Town is a historical village featuring authentic 19th and early 20th century homes and buildings that have been carefully restored. It's currently a history museum where visitors get to learn how early Americans lived and worked in Central Alabama. Old Alabama Town is located at 301 Columbus St, Montgomery, AL 36104.

American Constitution Village is a living history museum that transports its visitors back to 1819. Cherokee Rock Village was home to Native Americans from 8000 BC to 1838--until the resident Cherokee and Creek Indians were forced to leave by the Indian Removal Act. Cherokee Rock Village is a 200-acre park with massive sandstone boulders measuring up to 200 feet high and dating back 300 million years. Today, this historical site is known for its stunning views and popularity among rock climbers. Cherokee Rock Village is located at 2000 County Rd 70, Leesburg, AL 35983.
Heritage Village is the site of several buildings dating back to the 1800s that were donated by private individuals to the Selma-Dallas County Historic Preservation Society. A few of these historic buildings include the Gillis House, Siegel's Servants' Quarters and Pigeon Cote. Heritage Village is located on the corner of Mabry Street and McLeod Avenue in Selma, Alabama.
