If you were born and raised in SoCal, you already know you are pretty lucky. And, if you have spent most of your life here, you probably also know there are a few habits and characteristics that clearly identify you as a Southern Californian. We’ve listed 10 here that we think you’ll most likely recognize. Are any of these things true for you?
1. Your closet is full of flip flops for every occasion.
When you live in Southern California, casual Friday is literally every day. Whether you're at work, at a wedding, or lounging around at the house on the weekend, flip flops are a staple in every true Southern Californian's wardrobe. How many do you have in your closet?
2. You always find an excuse to be outside....especially on the weekend.
When the weekend rolls around in Southern California, you won't find us spending the day inside. Whether it's finding a new hike to enjoy or loading the bikes on the car and getting some miles in, you are undeniably from SoCal if you're always seeking out a new outdoor activity to enjoy.
3. You do all of your shopping at the local farmers market.
We love buying local here in SoCal, especially when it comes to fresh produce grown right here by local farmers. With a variety of weekly markets to choose from that line the sidewalks and main streets of SoCal, shopping at a farmers market is often part of our weekly routine.
4. You head straight for the organic department.
When we do head to the grocery store instead of the farmers market, it's the organic section we often seek out first. From produce to packaged products stamped with a certified organic label, you can always count on a Southern Californian to know their way around the organic sections of the store.
5. You add avocados to EVERYTHING.
From avocado toast to sandwiches and omelets topped with avocado, we can't help but add avocado to everything here in SoCal.
6. Recycling has always been a part of your life.
If you're from Southern California, or pretty much anywhere in California for that matter, recycling has most likely always been a big part of your life. Whether it's sorting out recyclables from trash or toting around a reusable canvas bag instead of paper or plastic, we all do our part here in SoCal to take care of the environment.
7. You wear sunglasses...even when it's not sunny outside.
We sure do love our sunglasses here in SoCal. So much so that we're always wearing them...even when the sun is not shining. I guess you could say they're our favorite accessory no matter what the weather is like.
8. You hear phrases like May Grey, June Gloom, and SigAlert and actually know what they mean.
If you're from Southern California there's no need to explain what these things mean. If you need to look them up then you are undeniably not from SoCal.
9. You are unimpressed with Mexican food the moment you leave SoCal...unless you're actually in Mexico.
If you've spent any time at all in SoCal, you know that we have the best Mexican food on the planet. This means we are quite disappointed the moment we bite into a plate of Mexican food that wasn't made right here in SoCal.
10. You always allow for extra time to get somewhere but still show up late.
Insane traffic has always been a way of life in Southern California. Which explains why no one from SoCal ever arrives on time...even when adding in extra time to get there. From rush hour to road work and traffic accidents that leave the freeway backed up for miles, driving in Southern California is always an adventure that leaves it hard to predict how long it will actually take to drive there.
