Anyone who is deathly afraid of bugs might want to steer clear of the Franklin Park Zoo this summer, as it’s been invaded by massive creepy crawlies! This awesome exhibition is the perfect place to learn about the surprising secret lives of bugs and how they’re actually a lot cooler than you think. Here’s what you should know.
The Wicked Big Bugs exhibition at Franklin Park Zoo welcomes guests to wander amongst insects as tall as buildings. Roles are reversed as visitors can stare up at critters that tower up to 15 feet in the air!
And these bugs aren’t just giant statues. Oh no – they actually move! You’ll have fun meeting animatronic creatures like the red knee tarantula, Madagascan sunset moth, meadow grasshopper, and emperor scorpion.

Adventurous kids will love the exhibit ’s interactive activities. Kids will be able to prove their climbing skill on a giant rope spider web and learn about the hidden agendas of bugs at education stations.

Both children and their adult keepers can also check out real "insect ambassadors" during daily bug encounters at the zoo. These will be held at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. each day, weather permitting.
If you have smaller kids or grandkids who aren’t so into giant bugs, the zoo is also offering a fun "Very Hungry Caterpillar Story Walk" between June 15 and Sept. 2. It’s a giggly, active romp through the classic storybook.
The Wicked Big Bugs event is running through Sept. 2, 2019. Visit on weekdays from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or on weekends from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Admission to the event is just $2 after the cost of general admission, which is $18.95 for adults and $12.95 for kids 12 and under. Stop by soon to meet the biggest bugs around!
