Check out one of Nevada's creepiest haunts when you visit the ghost town known as Tunnel Camp in Pershing County. Known as one of the most haunted ghost towns in the Silver State, it's the type of place you'll want to be sure to visit in broad daylight.
Comprised of several long-abandoned structures, including brick houses and an old mill, the town definitely looks like it hasn't seen a single sign of life in decades. Although one of the mills operated until 1937, it wasn't actually dismantled until 1970. The town's been eerily quiet ever since.
Tunnel Camp didn't come into being until 1927. However, it was a tragedy that took place in the nearby mining town of Mazuma that would have a drastic effect on Tunnel Camp and its legacy.
Around 100 people lived in Mazuma until a devastating flood destroyed the town in July 1912. The flood came out of nowhere, creating a 20-foot-high wall of water that killed eight people and ruined the town past the point of reconstruction.
Mazuma never recovered so many people relocated to Tunnel Camp, located just a mile west. The flood victims who were killed were buried in a graveyard at the base of the town. You can still see it today.
Tunnel Camp never really became an actual "town". It was merely a company camp until mining efforts finally dwindled in the 1950s. Visiting it decades later is an eerie experience that definitely isn't for the faint of heart.
You can't help but feel a strange energy surrounding the decomposing town. Some visitors have claimed to hear disembodied voices, witnessed rocks falling from the ceilings of buildings, and even seen full-on apparitions while exploring it.
