Before Colorado entered the Union in 1876, thousands of families traveled from all over the country in hopes of striking it big in area mines. From gold and silver to iron and marble, mining was king and proved to be one of the most profitable industries in state history. While mining is no longer as big as it once was, you can still get a glimpse at this exciting and dangerous line of work, thanks to this awesome Colorado mining festival that is guaranteed to be the gem of your summer:
Leadville Boom Days takes place August 2-4, 2019, and is a celebration of all things mining. The three-day festival will transport you back to the late 1800s!
Why a mining festival? First settled in 1859, Leadville and the surrounding area was once rich in gold, lead, and silver, and even housed a whopping 30,000 people who moved to the area for work.
In a tribute to the town's early days and the rich mining heritage, Leadville Boom Days pays homage to these early beginnings!

No matter your age, you will find something to love at Leadville Boom Days, which always kicks off on a Friday with food trucks and craft fairs; and wraps up on Sunday with a pie eating contest, egg toss, and burro racing.
What is a mining festival without a little mining action? Boom Days has that, too, with different hands-on activities and contests for kids and adults alike.
The Leadville Boom Days Opening Ceremony takes place on Friday, August 2, 2019, at 5 p.m., with its final event (the long-course Burro Racers return) on Sunday, August 4, 2019, at 3:30 p.m. Admission to the festival is free.
