What foods is Kentucky known for?
In addition to bourbon (which obviously is not a food), Kentucky is known for its insanely delicious barbecue (particularly burgoo, a slow-cooked, thick, and spicy barbecue 'stew' that typically uses meats such as pork, mutton, or beef with vegetables like tomatoes, okra, corn, lima beans, and potatoes); hot browns (turkey, bacon, and sometimes a tomato slice); beer cheese (a tangy, spreadable delicacy that's good on anything); and, of course, Derby Pie. This delicious dessert was created in 1950 in Prospect by George Kern and his parents, Walter and Leaudra Kern. The pie is now exclusively baked at Kern’s Kitchen, which has even trademarked the pie. Their recipe is a secret, but this favorite dessert of Kentucky consists of chocolate, chocolate chips, pecans and walnuts. It's amazing.
What's the best Mexican restaurant in Kentucky?
In addition to the restaurants listed in the above Kentucky Margarita Marathon, Victoria Mexican Restaurant dishes up some seriously delicious Mexican cuisine in The Bluegrass State. As with the best restaurants, Victoria Mexican Restaurant sits inside a humble blue building that really doesn't look like much from the outside. Inside, however, is a feast for the senses. The walls are colorful, and the food is out of this world. The tacos are insanely delicious; you won't want to stop eating the nachos; and their traditional Mexican soups like pozole and menudo are showstoppers. And of course, Victoria Mexican Restaurant's cocktails do not disappoint, with their margarita the perfect balance of tart, tangy, salty, and sweet.
