Cleveland is a culturally rich city, a fact that’s particularly evident in our foodie scene. However, there are still restaurants outside of city limits that are well worth the drive, overflowing with delectable options and opportunities to make memories. Akron has many unique places to dine, though it feels like an entire world away from Cleveland. It has a mere 198,000 residents compared to Cleveland’s 386,000, but Akron arguably has just as many places to dine as The Land. And, at only 40 minutes away, it’s close to home and offers a different selection of places to dine… like one old school eatery with a food challenge that will blow your mind. Are you brave enough to take on the biggest steak in Ohio?
Think you can down an 80 oz. steak, a salad, and a baked potato in just 45 minutes?
Get ready for something big, Clevelanders. Akron is a mere 40 minutes from home, and yet it feels a world away. This city has a foodie scene that's notably different from Cleveland's, and it includes some foods that are a really big deal.
This one restaurant out in Akron dares you to try.
For years, the bravest food enthusiasts in the world have been venturing to Main Street Saloon with an appetite. Armed with their game face, a fork, a knife or two, and a napkin, the goal is to eat as much as possible in one sitting.

Main Street Saloon is famous for their larger-than-life menu selections, but the ginormous burgers and steaks are a fan favorite.
These gargantuan portions aren't for the faint of heart. Visitors are challenged to consume portions that are practically inconceivable - a feat only the bravest dare take on.

The rules of both food challenges are simple: first, call ahead to give them at least 24 hours notice once you've decided to take on the challenge.
Think you've got what it takes? You best start working up an appetite now, because this burger will cost you nearly $40 if you don't finish it in the specified time.
For both challenges, your meat is cooked to order, whether you want it rare or well done.
If you don't finish your steak, you'll be looking at a bill of about $30. If you finish your steak or burger in the specified time, you'll earn yourself a free t-shirt and a permanent place in their hall of fame.
To put this Akron area food challenge into perspective, the infamous Big Texan Steak Ranch's 72 oz. steak is smaller... yet it's still regarded as one of the craziest food challenges anywhere.
Want to give this challenge a go? We recommend you follow the Main Street Saloon Facebook page to keep it on your radar, and then start training however you feel is most appropriate.
Oh, and for the record, Main Street Saloon also offers normally-portioned meals... you know, if you're a sissy.
