No matter what your age, there’s nothing quite like a good old fashioned treasure hunt. The thrill of searching and the excitement of finding something hidden just can’t be matched. Every summer, Rhode Island is home to one of the most captivating treasure hunts in the country — the Block Island Float Project. Hundreds of gorgeous hand-blown glass floats will be hidden around the island this summer and to win one of these prized nautical treasures, all you have to do is find one!
The hunt will kick off in June 2019 and continues until all 550 glass floats are found! Not all of them are hidden at the same time, so you can visit Block Island any time this summer and have a chance to find one.
The glass floats are about the size of an orange and are dated, numbered, and stamped with the shape of Block Island. They are clear glass except for 19 of them that are special colors.
Created by Eben Horton of The Glass Station, these hand-blown floats are one-of-a-kind pieces of art. There is no better prize to find on this nautical treasure hunt.
You can also head out on a hike and check along the greenway trails. You can find them within one foot to the side of any trail, no need to travel off the beaten path!
Don't be greedy! This is a one float per treasure hunter activity. Please only take one float per seeker from the island and leave the rest for other treasure hunters to find.
