The beauty of Idaho lakes is one of our state’s best-kept secrets. Our mountain lakes especially are sights that simply can’t be rivaled. Seeing one of our state’s incredible alpine lakes should be on every Idahoan’s bucket list, and this hiking trail is an awesome place to start. Leading you to the most crystal blue lake and boasting all sorts of natural beauty, this trail is an exhilarating adventure that’s bound to leave an impression.
Take yourself on a memorable adventure to one of the state's most gorgeous mountain lakes when you set off on the Revett Lake Trail near the North Idaho town of Murray.
The 3.8-mile loop trail is brief but it definitely packs a punch. Containing an elevation gain of only 700-feet, this is an easy-breezy hike that is manageable for hikers of most skill levels. Additionally, it's located far enough away in the backcountry that you don't have to worry about crowded trails—definitely a plus.
Simply put, the Revett Lake Trail has it all. You'll find the trailhead at the top of Thompson Pass. Located off of Forest Highway 266, it's pretty easy to find since it contains a large parking area and restrooms.
The well-traveled trail is easy to follow and will lead you up gentle grades which boast the most spectacular views. The first portion of the trail meanders through rocky terrain but soon turns into gorgeous forested surroundings.
The forest becomes more and more dense as you get closer to the lake. The soft trickling of a nearby waterfall is the perfect set-up to the scene you're about to witness.
Finally, Revett Lake will come into view. Peaking through the trees, the lake's vibrant blue waters will leave you in total awe. Just wait, the lake gets even more beautiful as you approach the shore.
Up close, the lake's water is crystal clear. You can see right down to the bottom in some spots! Now all you have to do is sit back, relax, and take it all in. Revett Lake is an easy adventure that every Idahoan should experience, so add this trail to your bucket list right away.
