This lake is so beautiful that park officials have had to institute a permit system to preserve its natural splendor. During the park’s peak hiking season (May through October), only 615 people are permitted to hike to the lake per day. That might sound like a lot, but this place is truly a world-class destination that people travel from around the globe to check out.

All visitors must park at a designated area and may take a bike or shuttle to the trailhead if they don’t feel like hiking. From there, expect a bracing hike to the mesmerizing blue lake. Permits are $12 per person and must be booked online ahead of time.
