Spring is in the air, and it’s the perfect time to get some fresh air and attend a fun festival. The Amana Colonies Maifest is coming up soon, and you’ll want to put it on your calendar.
Set aside some time on your calendar right now, because one of Iowa's best spring festivals is happening soon. Head to the Amana Colonies on May 4th and 5th for Maifest.
You'll find the Amana Colonies at 622 46th Ave., Amana, IA 52203.
This German festival celebrates the return of spring, and the villages are filled with folks in traditional dress and colorful costumes.
There will be plenty of dancing around the Maipole. The dancers will perform 10 different times over Saturday and Sunday.
You'll also enjoy lots of traditional German music. Check the schedule for music performances, and watch for the accordion players throughout the villages.
Connect with your creative self during Arts in the Barn on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Throughout the festival, you'll also find demonstrations at the woolen mill, the Schanz Furniture & Refinishing, Heritage Designs, and more.
All this fun is certain to leave you hungry, and the World on Wheels Food Truck Fare has plenty of authentic German food.
Seven different food trucks offer up all kinds of tasty food...
...and you won't want to leave without trying a slice of fruit kuchen.
The Wine, Beer, and Chocolate Walk is one of the most popular events of the festival. Stroll through the shops, winery, and brewery to taste chocolates, fudge, wine, beer, and more. Get a punch card and visit each shop on the list to get a logo glass. It's held on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is for festival goers who are 21 years and older.
Maifest kicks off Saturday, May 4th and goes throughout the weekend. Don't miss it!
Visit the Amana Colonies website for more information, and tag the friends you want to join you for this fun festival.
